Cartoon Network and LEGO team up to bring you ‘The Mixels”

2014 is setting up to be a rather HUGE year for LEGO. In a few weeks, the franchise will be releasing a new play set inspired by The Simpsons with a LEGO-flavored Simpsons episode happening in May and now the brand is teaming up with Cartoon Network to offer even more awesomeness.

Last year the LEGO/Cartoon Network relationship was decent at best giving us really great entertainment like the LEGO Star Wars specials, but also giving us lousiness in the form of Legends of Chima. This year, LEGO is giving us an all-new franchise to play with this one called The Mixels. That’s right, The Mixels is a brand-new animated property that will be offered on a number of different platforms starting in February beginning on the sixth where mixels.com will be the first launch of the new series.

However, starting on February 12th during Teen Titans Go!’s 7:30 pm EST showing (check your local listings), Cartoon Network will be broadcasting brand-new Mixels animated shorts inspired by the new series. Soon after, kids will be able to “mix, max and murp” with their own LEGO® Mixels collectible building sets and download the Calling All Mixels app.

Mixels is centered around a world of colorful creatures who can mix and combine with each other leading to hilarious and surprising results. They are comical, mischievous creatures that live in tribes of three. Each tribe is based around a unique element. The Infernites are fiery and short tempered, but handy for a barbeque. The Cragsters are the industrious mining tribe and the Electroids are a quirky bunch with enough nervous energy to light up the whole world. Nixels, annoying and destructive little creatures, wreak havoc over the Mixel land trying to tear down and break apart the tribes.

I’ve seen a sneak peek and so far the Mixels are very funny giving off a ”Minions from Despicable Me” type vibe in terms of zaniness. That said, I hope the February 12th episode of Teen Titans Go! is a brand-new episode so that this franchise can get a fair shake. Be sure to check back with previews leading up to the premier.
