Adult Swim Con Recap: Robot Chicken Twitch-Con Event “Look Who’s Bawkin”

This event was a 6-way video chat Interviewed by “Sally” and during the interview, we have RC co-creators Seth Green & Matt Senreich with other RC voice-regular & writer Breckin Meyer , Katie Sackhoff, and Donald Faison of “Scrubs” fame.

The infamous “Gummy bear commercial” had some fascinating facts behind it explaining that as a character she only makes an appearance every “100 episodes” and that Michelle Trachtenberg had a “horror movie scream” she wanted to use and Seth wanted to build a sketch around her scream alone. The iconic Bitch Pudding sketch “C#nt-Face”, started her off as a one-shot character who’s outrageously foul-mouthed nature spiked in popularity in later episodes mostly in part by Sackhoff’s performance.

Seth later goes into how they modified certain toys to help them be easy to animate or pose during their early seasons, how they use to get their toys from garage sales and private collectors & sellers before they started using eBay, the complexity of how long certain sketches take which depends on the animation of how many characters are put in the same room together and the hardest figurine they’ve made for the show itself was the titular Robot Chicken which was built from the ground up to have more movement.

Seth also mentions the evolution of Star Wars sketches and how their love for the franchise remains unchanged and how some of their sketches when they did the specials at the time were approved by George Lucas himself and have expressed interest in parodying the most recent Star Wars Trilogy in the future but will keep the jokes under lock & key as they aren’t sure if Disney will let them make any more half-hour Star Wars specials in the future since Lucas no longer has ownership.

Breckin mentions a sketch he wrote that wasn’t approved which was a twisted parody of “Drop Dead Fred” involving an “imaginary bunny that sexually assaults a kid and shits in his mouth”. With Breckin jokingly saying “that’s why we have censors”.

Half-hour specials including a Master of the Universe themed one have frequently been in talks. Seth also mentions that they’re currently working on more Transformers sketches but haven’t thought about a half-hour special devoted to the franchise itself. Donald has expressed interest in having creative control and directing an entire episode of sketches himself which according to Seth is a “10-month process” and Donald also talks about the hardships of getting his foot in the door in voice acting outside of RC.  Seth has stated that many of their celebrity sketches are often made out of good-spirited fun and not out of Malice but are more interested in making jokes about characters rather than real people.  An Animal Crossing Sketch is currently in production but won’t be released until later in 2021.

This Sunday the 26th at midnight Marks the 200th Episode which is also the Season 10 Finale with a ton of guest stars including Anthony Stewart Head from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Our Take

This was quite a fun interview between 5 people and hearing everyone’s thoughts and experiences along with the hardships of making the episodes have given me a new level respect for the show and how much effort they put into a funny and polished product.
