Review: South Park “Fort Collins”
If you build it, they will come.
Spoilers Below
We’ve finally reached the midway point for the 20th season of South Park. The season 20 storyline continues to have incredible suspense and heaping doses of political and social satire, as always. I’m not sure if people are loving the serialized storytelling as much as I am, but even though this season of South Park isn’t as laugh out loud hilarious or nuts as other seasons, I’m still crazy about it. I’m on the edge of my seat every week following this chaotic story of U.S. Presidential hopefuls, internet trolls, social media, and humanity’s lust for nostalgia.
In this week’s new episode, “Fort Collins”, we see the still-changed Cartman, seemingly honestly changed for the good, with his girlfriend, both trying to make the world a better place. His dream sequences on Mars are really intense– the details on the architecture is reminiscent of sex organs, and the sequences have a Total Recall-type vibe.
Trolltrace.com is becoming more functional, as the Danish want to triangulate all the online trolls in the world via emoji analysis. Member berries are playing a large part, and they have a strange adventure, as it seems Randy knew all along that the berries are the reason that Mr. Garrison is so popular. At the end of the episode, we get a couple more bombshells. Kyle’s dad, Caitlyn Jenner– things are about to get even crazier.
The suspense for the resolution of this season’s storyline increases with every minute of every new episode. I always find myself dreading the end of each one, because I want to see where all of this is going to lead! So many twists and turns. Matt and Trey are really killing it this season.
As with every season of South Park, the 6-day writing, producing and animating cycle keeps everything so fresh- they’re able to make almost immediate commentary on everything going on in the world. I can’t believe we have to wait another week for more!

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
