Review: American Dad! “Standard Deviation”
Nothing standard about this season.
Spoilers Below
“Standard Deviation”, tonight’s new American Dad! episode, was pretty damn great. With one of the weirdest cold opens in American Dad! history, we see that Stan is angry that Hayley refuses to have a plan for her future life. When Stan brings her on a suicide mission, she rejects his logic even more.
Bullock is working as a DJ in a dance club every night, and of course a DJ battle must ensue. Jeff gets far too into psychedelic teas, and Roger thoroughly enjoys making fun of him and the instrument he “mastered” on a shamanic journey.
There are some SERIOUS laughs in this episode. Just some insanely funny stuff. Bullock is insane, and his ideas just get crazier and crazier. Plus, there is a really trippy psychedelic sequence with Stan, Hayley and other disturbing things– similar to the one in Family Guy.
In several sequences and false realities, this episode is so well written that it employs every character to a really satisfying degree, and the ins and outs of what’s really going on is a funny and unbelievable blur.
More like this please! As always, looking forward to the rest of this spastic season on TBS!

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
