Review: Regular Show “Expert or Liar”
How far will Rigby go to prove he isn’t a liar? Find out after the jump!
Spoilers Below
Rigby has been called at lot of things, but an expert isn’t one of them. So, when he claims to be one, an obvious plant (sorry for the pun) gets him to call himself an expert. It happens, and Burt Coleman comes out of the old lady disguise. Rigby has to answer all 1o questions correctly, or he is a liar. Of course, Rigby doesn’t know what color a violet is, and he is labeled a Liar.
That gets the entire gang to laugh at him when the show airs. Rigby is so upset, he needs to redeem himself. He goes to the snack bar, and fills his bag with nachos and candy, to Mordecai’s dismay.Rigby is sick of not being taken seriously, so he vows to find Burt and make him look like a fool.
So, we get a montage of Rigby going after everyone who isn’t Burt Coleman, like an old man, ice cream guy, mime, and even some dude who is trying to kiss his girl. After striking out some more, he comes to a couple of punks with a boombox, and gets knocked out for his troubles.
Benson checks the chips, and finds that they aren’t at optimum levels. After finding out Rigby was humiliated on TV, he goes to find Rigby. He ends up finding Rigby on a bench, so he takes him to his apartment. He tells him he was also embarassed on TV, and shows Rigby. He is supposed to say the word on the screen, and he misread the word. They decide that Rigby is an expert on sandwiches, and then go about luring Burt out.
The next day, Benson tasks everyone to find Burt Coleman in town. No one wants to do it, but Benson reminds him Rigby’s lying got them out of messes. Thomas chimes in, and says he’s friends with an intern on the show. Thomas, Benson and Rigby talk to him, and find they are doing an episode about video games. Coleman doesn’t allow repeat guests, so they need to trick him. And trick him they do.
Burt comes up as a creeper on a dude in the arcade, who says he’s an expert at video games. Rigby comes out of the costume, and demands to be back on the show. The parade of humilated people get him to back on persuade Burt. He accepts, but if Rigby fails, the show will be rerun everyday until the show is cancelled.
Rigby goes through the questions as he progresses through the course, which looks like a broken level of Donkey Kong. He almost loses on the last level, because Burt was too fast to respond on Rigby’s answer when he says the answer to “Who is the universal record holder in Broken Bones?” Rigby said it was Derrick Bobby Furguson, until it was broken by him and Mordecai. Everyone at the house, until they forget Muscle Man is still out looking for Burt.
This episode brought it early, and brought it hard. Rigby on his own is almost as good as his antics with Mordecai. And this episode started to get that early season type of violent, with Rigby being on the receiving end of getting punked twice. His determination has to speak for itself, because he went balls out to find Burt, even if it was in the wrong way.
Benson stepped up to help, as well. He even states in the episode that they don’t get along, but he wants to do the right thing. He’s always wanted to, he just let’s his feelings get in the way sometimes. Rigby is a really good character, because he has actual good writing behind it, which is something we can’t say about some other shows on TV right now.
I hope this is the start to a trend, where the main characters go out on their own. It worked for Rigby and Mordecai (Ok, him and CJ), and I think a Fives episode would kick ass. It would also add to the diversity for plot lines. The return to 7:30 seems to be working out well for the guys at Regular Show.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
