English Dub Review: Yugioh: The Abridged Series “Muerte Pinata”
After what seemed like forever, Yugioh: The Abridged Series finally comes back with a new episode! Find out what’s going on in the series after the jump!
So, in case you didn’t know the story, Yugioh is the story of a spiky-haired teen that saves the world with a deck of cards. Luckily for us, we know that plot is about as retarded as possible, and Yugioh: The Abridged Series let’s us know every step of the way. This is LittleKuriboh’s bread and butter, and where everything else he’s worked on spawned from. Now, if you’re looking for this to be as in your face with the humor as DBZ Abridged, you may be a little disappointed, because this is dry, British humor, and it’s here in droves. However, a couple of the many jokes no one gets tired of are the jokes on how 4Kids just rapes its properties. Watch the 4Kids dub of One Piece. I dare you. Don’t forget the fanfiction jokes, as well, because they are all over the place.
The abridged version of the plot, is Yugi, the purple and yellow haired kid in the picture, becoming king of games. He is in possession of the Millennium Puzzle, which contains the spirit of the ancient seemingly gay Pharoah. Unfortunately, his friends don’t know that the Pharoah and Yugi share the same body. They end up catching on in season 2, and in season 3, they flat out know. He defeats the cartoon obsessed creator of a children’s card game, and fought his way through a tournament that Seto Kaiba (the owner of KaibaCorp) put together, called Battle City. Kaiba, lost to Yugi, and that set up, “Muerte Pinata.” There are a lot of characters, and I’ll just give them a synposis as they come up.
The Pharoah and the rest of the gang (Joey, Tristian, Tea, and Duke) were outside, wondering why Yugi wasn’t watching the duel between Joey and Kaiba. After the Pharoah dealt with an annoying subplot, Joey stammers through lying to him about losing to Kaiba. The conceited prick of a Pharoah just can’t get over the fact that he thought Bronze was so good of a spot. The group makes it up to the top of the Battle Tower, where Melvin (the spirit of the Millenium Rod. He is also inhabiting Marik’s body, the antagonist of season 2.) is ready for the finals. Before the game starts, Kaiba throws him a card to help him win with.
After the funniest deck shuffling sequence ever, the game finally begins. Marik summons the Shadow Realm, Purple Realm…depends on who’s calling it. Marik then brings out both Marik and Yugi’s other halves, in a shadow game. When either competitor takes damage, their captured halves lose parts of their bodies. The Pharoah is so out of touch, he doesn’t realize that the pain Yugi feels is legit. Kaiba is having an inner monologue, which is interrupted by Yugi, who then is interrupted by Tristan. Marik finally summons his God Card, The Winged Dragon of Ra. He sacrifices all but one life point to raise Ra’s attack, and fusing with him. Yugi tells him to draw the card Kaiba gave him, and to use the Heart of the Cards. After a minute of how much bullshit that is, the Pharoah just draws it, the Fiend Sanctuary. The Pharoah forces Melvin to defuse, which cancels the attack. The Pharoah then summons his God Card, Obelisk, the Executive Producer, which ends in a game of Rock, Paper, Uhh. Uhh loses to Rock, by the way.
Marik uses his metal Slime to copy Obelisk, which Yugi wants to trade for. He will trade both cards he got from Kaiba, which Kaiba is just a little upset about. Tristan is scared, and Melvin goes off on it, ending in wanting to go to LegoLand. Is that still a thing? Anyway, Marik’s spirit goes to Odeon (Marik’s adopted brother, and henchman), and tells him that he left gummi bears for him, which wakes Odeon up from his coma. Tristan finally starts to piece together that the Pharoah and Yugi are two people, which the others immediately dismiss. Odeon makes it to the duel, and the Pharoah uses Ragnarok to destroy the Winged Dragon of Ra, which just came back out of nowhere. After the Attack, Melvin and Marik switch back, and Melvin is only a floating right corner of a face.
Yes, the story is convoluted, but that’s only the convolution comes from the source material. But to be honest, if you’re reading this, you should just watch this from episode one, because there are entirely way too many jokes that are brought up, and if you just start watching now, then you wouldn’t find this very funny.
That being said, the episode is freaking hilarious. Melvin was a perfect choice to make the Rod’s spirit into, and his interaction with the Pharoah is what makes this worth the watch. You can find the episode, as well as the rest of LittleKuriboh’s work on the Yugioh Abridged website.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
