English Dub Review: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime “Chronoa the Hero, Part 1”

Overview

When Chloe’s Time Traveler skill kicks in, Hinata’s soul is sent to the past along with her.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, the show takes a surprising detour to explore Chloe and Hinata’s story, revealing more about Chloe’s mysterious connection to the past and the events that have shaped her journey. The episode provides some much-needed context for Chloe’s abilities and her relationship with Hinata, while also expanding on the history surrounding Luminous and the world itself. Although the sudden shift away from the ongoing conflict may catch some viewers off guard, the additional lore and character development make this a worthwhile change of pace.

What I particularly enjoyed was seeing Chloe and Hinata interact throughout the episode, as their dynamic adds a lighter and more personal touch to what is otherwise a fairly heavy story. The episode also does a great job of giving Luminous more depth by showing her dedication to protecting her people, while the encounter involving Veldora adds another memorable moment without overshadowing Chloe’s story. The animation and music complement the atmosphere nicely as well, with the new OST standing out as a particularly soothing addition.

Overall, this was a fascinating episode that delivers a lot of important world-building while giving Chloe considerably more depth than she has received before. Some of the time-travel elements can be confusing, and I understand why some viewers may have preferred to see the previous conflict play out a little longer, but I enjoyed the direction the story took here. There are still plenty of questions surrounding Chloe’s journey and where everything ultimately leads, and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how the pieces come together in the next part.
