English Dub Review: Goodbye, Lara “Look Away and You Lose”

Overview:

Lara is curious about “school,” and Mari fights her senior to participate in the next boxing tournament.

Our Take(Spoilers):

If this show doesn’t go down the yuri path, then I think there’s going to be some angry yuri fans out there. Lara is tasked with finding true love, and the second that Mari called her a “cute idiot,” she blushed, and a huge artifact came out of the sea. From that point, we hear Lara’s sister talk about finding true love. So, at the very least, they want us to think that Lara is falling in love with Mari or something.

I’m not trying to say that humans are always mean to each other, but I think it’s funny how nice people are in anime sometimes. Lara has been staying with Mari and her grandmother (and I believe her brother?), and I wouldn’t put up with what Lara has done. She’s broken a window, trailed water all through the house, and ordered a large amount of cake that someone had to pay for. This led Mari’s grandmother to ask when Lara is leaving, and I don’t blame her. I wouldn’t want to let a stranger stay with me, especially when they behave like that.

The other person who stays there is Mari’s brother, I think. He seems important because they’ve barely shown us his face, and I think he’s the character in the OP that looks like the prince from episode one. If the yuri things are just bait, then I think he will be an important character, and even if it’s not just bait, then I think he will be more important as the show progresses.

This episode showed us a lot about Mari. She’s in the boxing club at school, and we got a lot of flashbacks showing her fighting as a child. She eventually got into boxing, and she had a very supportive mother. Like most mothers in anime, it seems that she passed away before the show started. During a flashback, we saw Mari competing and looked to the crowd and saw her mother hunched over, grabbing her chest. So if I had to bet, I would say her mother is no longer alive.

I’m still loving this show, but I think it’s dragging its feet a little too long. There seems to be a lot that still needs to happen, and we’re already a quarter of the way done.
