Joe Pera and Dan Licata Team Up for New Adult Swim Project ‘My Two Cars’
Adult Swim has given fans a sneak peek at a surreal new animated venture from two of contemporary comedy’s most distinct voices. The network released the official opening sequence for My Two Cars, an upcoming project co-created by Dan Licata and Joe Pera.
Clocking in at a brisk, bite-sized 37 seconds, the newly unveiled show open leans heavily into the duo’s signature blend of mundane observational humor and hyper-specific absurdity.
The Ultimate Automotive Dilemma
The animated sequence introduces audiences to Keith, a man living a deceptively chaotic and highly privileged life in a suburban environment.
“Picture this: You are lucky enough to own both a PT Cruiser—pedal to the metal—and a Mini Cooper—pedal to the metal again,” Keith’s enthusiastic voiceover narrates as three automatic garage doors slowly open to reveal his prized fleet. “Your day-to-day life will be insane, but also hard trying to decide which one to drive.”
The visuals establish a wonderfully strange setting, complete with a road sign welcoming drivers to “Choonchi, Ohio — Home of the Smelly Pizza.” The brief clip highlights Keith’s intense internal struggle as he stares longingly at his key rings, agonizing over whether to opt for the purple PT Cruiser or the red-and-white Mini Cooper. The intro wraps with Keith proudly donning his wrap-around sports sunglasses, confidently asserting his personal truth to the camera.
A Proven Comedic Pedigree
The project unites long-term collaborators Dan Licata and Joe Pera, whose previous creative partnerships have generated an incredibly dedicated cult following.
-
Joe Pera is widely celebrated for his critically acclaimed, deeply calming Adult Swim live-action series Joe Pera Talks with You, which ran for three seasons and established a unique pocket of wholesome, slow-paced television.
-
Dan Licata, a veteran stand-up comedian, served as a prominent writer and producer on Joe Pera Talks with You and has heavily collaborated with Pera on various specials and touring material.
By shifting their creative lens into full animation, My Two Cars promises to bring that same highly specific, regional Midwestern sensibility into a medium where their strangest visual impulses can run entirely free.
