English Dub Review: Classroom of the Elite “Obscured By the Rain”
Overview:
Ayanokoji learns more about the White Room assassin and has a few more encounters.
Our Take:
I mentioned last week that it seemed like Nanase changed her tune on Ayanokoji quickly. I haven’t read the light novel, but it seems like things are moving at a faster clip than before. We, the audience, learned that Amasawa was the White Room student last week. So I figured that it would be a while before Ayanokoji figured out who it was. But then Amasawa walked right up to him and told him.
If you’ve been watching, then you know that Amasawa is in love with Ayanokoji. So I’m not necessarily surprised that she told him, but I thought it would be a little while at least. Amasawa is a character that interests me, and I’d like to see her in action as well. Can she fight as well as Ayanokoji does? If those two worked together in a fight or even in this exam, I imagine they would be unstoppable. Now that I’ve written it out, I hope that happens.
What I’m not sure I like is this becoming a sort of harem anime. Horikita was the girl I originally thought Ayanokoji would get with, and she seems to be the only one who isn’t even interested. Karuizawa started not interested, but now she’s clearly smitten. Ichinose has definitely caught feelings for our boy, and I’m not sure how Sakayanagi feels. But a lot of our main female characters are in love with him, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Nanase gets there too. We already know how Amasawa feels.
I need to comment on the animation for this season. I can’t lie and say I don’t like it, but it does look a little rough. I’ve been playing some older Switch games, and the art style of those looks kind of jagged and not put together. I can see where the pixels are, which is what I’m getting at, and I feel that way while watching this season of the show.
We’ve now completed thirteen episodes in a sixteen-episode season. Even at the breakneck pace we’ve adopted, I’ll be surprised if we finish the exam. On the other hand, I know that anime loves to show us girls in bathing suits, and with a vacation promised after this, maybe I’m wrong. It was a solid episode, and things are starting to progress a little quicker.
