English Dub Review: Chained Soldier “Gods Assemble”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
In the aftermath, both the Demon Defense Force and the Thunder Gods prepare for what comes next.

Our Take:
While the battle against the god concluded with a bang, there’s at least one more scenario left unsolved before the second season comes to a close.  The season two finale continues where the previous episode left off, with Mira asking to borrow Yuuki.  The result is what we usually expect from the other members borrowing Yuuki in other episodes, although his new form under Mira’s possession isn’t like the others.  But hey, at least it has an Akira slide reference for all of you fans of the anime masterpiece.  But at its core, this section provides a satisfying closure, not just for Mira’s anxiety, but also for Kyouka.  With Kyouka overcoming her fear of sharing Yuuki, she’s reaching the next step of trusting her team with Yuuki and even her journey of becoming Supreme Commander.  Hopefully, she’ll be able to do so soon before Yamashiro delivers some payback against Yuuki.
Additionally, “Gods Assemble” offered what the episode’s title suggests, introducing more of the Thunder Gods and their plan to avenge Kuusetsu’s death.  This includes their supposed leader, Taikyoku, who appears to be more formidable than the others, which may cause trouble for the Demon Defense Force.  If a third season were to happen, and I believe it will, the show will focus more on the impending showdown between the Defense Force and the Thunder Gods, as well as finding a cure for Aoba’s condition.  Given the experience I had with season two, it would be a shame if we don’t see more Mato adventures in anime form, but at least there’s always the comics.  In short, “Gods Assemble” follows the guidelines needed to suitably conclude the season and offers teases of what we should expect in the next one.
