Family Guy Spin-Off “Stewie” Announced For FOX And Hulu
It’s the news Family Guy fans have been waiting decades for: the breakout star of Quahog is finally getting his own solo spotlight.
Fox has officially given a series order to “Stewie,” a standalone spinoff centered on the diabolical, sophisticated, and frequently misunderstood youngest member of the Griffin family. The project comes from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane and longtime showrunners Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin.
While Stewie Griffin has long been considered the “face” of the flagship series, the spinoff marks a significant shift in storytelling. According to the network, the new series will see Stewie “stepping out from the shadow of the Griffin household” to navigate a world that is much larger—and much more dangerous—than Spooner Street.
In the series, after getting the boot from his old preschool, Stewie is forced to enroll in a new one that’s not exactly top-of-the-line. It’s attended by a handful of kids he doesn’t know, and a 75-year-old class turtle with a half-cocked theory on just about every subject. Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable… until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure.
Seth MacFarlane is confirmed to return to voice the titular character. MacFarlane will also serve as an executive producer alongside Appel and Sulkin.
“Stewie has always been a character who could anchor his own universe,” said Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming for Fox Entertainment. “His intellect, his gadgetry, and his razor-sharp wit have driven some of Family Guy’s most iconic moments. Giving him his own playground allows us to push the boundaries of Seth’s imagination even further.”
The biggest question on every fan’s mind is whether Stewie’s loyal companion and intellectual rival, Brian the dog, will be making the jump.
While the spinoff is titled simply Stewie, insiders suggest that Seth MacFarlane (who also voices Brian) will likely feature the martini-drinking canine in a recurring capacity. However, the show is intended to establish its own unique supporting cast of characters, moving away from the familiar dynamics of the Griffin family home.
This marks the second major spinoff for the Family Guy franchise, following The Cleveland Show, which ran for four seasons. However, the timing of Stewie suggests a renewed push by Fox to capitalize on its most valuable animation properties as Family Guy continues its historic run (currently in its 24th season).
Production is already underway at 20th Television Animation. Fans won’t have to wait too long to see the world through the eyes of a megalomaniacal one-year-old; “Stewie” is slated to premiere as part of Fox’s “Animation Domination” block in Mid-Season 2027.
In the meantime, viewers can catch new episodes of Family Guy on Sunday nights, where the groundwork for Stewie’s solo journey is expected to be laid throughout the upcoming season.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
