OUR TAKE
Oof, after many weird delays, some understandable and some not, we are finally FINALLY at the end of Pass the Monster Meat, Milady. And I don’t say that to suggest I haven’t enjoyed the show to some degree. There are definitely other shows that were also impacted by these delays that would qualify for that, but I’ve genuinely had a decent time watching this one! I do wish these last few episodes had felt more significant and impactful but I guess this was never meant to be that kind of show. This is best evidenced here in this finale, as while Melphie connecting with the troops now that she is their duchess might be a tense or risky thing, she pretty much instantly wins them over, and really it seems her anxiety is the only thing holding her back, even though it appears to endear people to her even more. And perhaps this is a good closing statement for the series, as while Melphie and Aristide have been shunned in their respective pasts for their eccentricities, their honest and good nature is seen by the people who are willing to accept them. And really, even with all of the detoxified monster food they managed to make into something edible, it’s always tastier to eat with friends.
And that’s a wrap on the show, given a hearty send off and showing that Melphie has finally found her community where she can feel loved and encouraged to pursue and perfect her mother’s research and her own curiosities. Oh, and she meets Galeo, Blanche’s husband, who she nearly drinks under the table with undiluted snake wine, so he says he’ll make a sword for her, and that magic puppy they got starts getting magic powers so they have to return it to the wild at some point. Those were a bit arbitrary plot bits that only kind of got resolved, but they’re things that happened so I figured I should mention them. I would have liked a more decisive feeling season finale where Melphie’s expertise and things she had learned were tested and she overcame a challenge, ideally with Aristide’s help to show how their partnership and relationship had developed and helped them both grow but…this is fine, I guess. I am kind of curious where a second season would take these characters, especially with so much left unattended to or unexplored, but I wouldn’t exactly be champing at the bit for more.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
