Review: Fortnite x The Simpsons

2025 has been quite a successful year for the Simpson family, as far as I’m aware.  In addition to its ongoing 37th season, The Simpsons finally made their debut in the popular online game where almost every character from a specific franchise can throw down: Fortnite.  Yes, that includes Huntrix from “KPop Demon Hunters”, in case you are wondering.  To celebrate this latest inclusion, Fortnite and The Simpsons team up to release four short episodes chronicling the origin of this legendary collaboration.  The result is precisely what you would expect from such a collaboration.  It’s a straightforward and often amusing reflection of Homer’s “attempt” to make Springfield a better place with a powerful shard.  Spoiler alert: it resulted in him becoming a giant, setting the stage for tomorrow’s epic “Zero Hour” event in Fortnite.

However, it also feels more like an advertisement for the Simpsons’ inclusion in the game than a limited series, particularly in its pacing and episodic structure.  The Fortnite characters were barely in the collaboration after the first chapter, and the “Sugar High” episode could’ve included a short montage to bridge between Homer making food fall from the sky and the residents’ anger towards his “good deed”.  The episodes were at least around three to seven minutes, which would make this a breezy watch for fans of both franchises.  But their structures could’ve used more of an expansion pack to make this four-episode advertisement as grand as the iconic online game.
