English Dub Review: Rock Is a Lady’s Modesty “Lady Version: Want to Use a Peer Seeker?/ Rock Version: I’ll Get Them Thrown Out!”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Alice despises her new sister and mother and is determined to drive them out of her home.  Meanwhile, Lilisa and Otoha start their search for new band members.

Our Take:
Providing a clear direction and goal is one thing, but searching for the right members to play with is a challenge in itself, especially when the band is more instrumental than vocal.  This is the basis of this week’s episode, where Lilisa and Otoha begin the next step in their rock “n” roll dominance: recruiting a bassist and keyboardist.  However, like Lilisa’s attempt to maintain her composure, finding such members is not as easy as it looks, as the LinkedIn-type music app doesn’t provide any glowing reviews for its applicants.  Fortunately, they’re able to find an open request from a symphonic band known as “Red Familia”, which seemed like a perfect opportunity for the duo to test their skills in front of an audience.
But, as it turns out, forming the band isn’t the only predicament Lilisa and Otoha are encountering, as they also have Lilisa’s stepsister, Alice, to deal with.  We were first introduced to Alice in the second episode, and she wasn’t quite a happy camper when it came to her relationship with Lilisa.  I even compared her to the stepsisters in “Cinderella”.  Unsurprisingly, thanks to this episode and the previous one, Alice’s true colors have become increasingly evident regarding her selfish hatred towards Lilisa and her mother.  She sees them more as “wicked witches” than family, fueling her determination to banish them from her life once and for all.  The situation would soon become even more problematic when Alice discovers what Lilisa has been up to, which is considered poor timing, given Lilisa and Otoha’s preparations for their first live performance.
The episode showcases the duo’s first attempt at a live performance, primarily through humor, particularly in Otoha’s out-of-context phrasing.  However, given their “behaviors” during practice and Red Familia’s subtle symphony, this will also provide them with the challenge of controlling their vulgar urges while performing in front of an audience.  Additionally, it further highlights Alice’s eagerness to have Lilisa and her mother removed from her life, making her character perceived as a typical selfish noble brat.  However, that could change once she hears Lilisa perform with Red Familia, which could be either good or bad, depending on one’s perspective.  Christina Kelly’s vocal performance as Alice sounded somewhat phoned in, particularly regarding her character’s rude nature, which isn’t much of a surprise considering HiDive’s track record for its inconsistent dub direction.  Putting that aside, Alice does make for an intimidating stepsister who would likely put Cinderella’s ugly stepsisters to shame.
