English Dub Review: A Couple of Cuckoos “Who Was Umino-kun’s First Love?”

Overview:

Hiro moves in with Nagi, Sachi, and Erika. Friction arises, but they’re reminded of what happiness might mean.

Our Take:

You might notice a trend with what I say here. When the first season of A Couple of Cuckoos aired there wasn’t a dub and I wanted to watch so I viewed the sub version. It was good and enjoyable, as far as a harem rom-com goes this is a semi-unique idea. Nagi and Erika being forced to marry each other isn’t anything new but the fact that they were accidentally swapped at birth is quirky enough. There is enough re-tread that this does feel like Nisekoi if you’ve ever watched that. The only difference is he has a sister that once she finds out they’re not blood-related she gets romantically interested in him.

Since I hadn’t watched the dub I had no idea who was voicing the characters. Having AmaLee and Brynn Apprill voice Hiro and Sachi are two big names. Lindsay Sheppard as Erika is a good choice. I’m not overly familiar with Nicholas Andrew Louie who voices Nagi. I liked what I heard in this episode though because the way he voiced the character reminded me of one of my favorites, Crispin Freeman. A new character introduced this season, Ai, is voiced by someone called Bao the Whale. I looked them up and they’re apparently a V-Tuber so I’ll be intrigued to see how that goes.
