English Dub Review: City the Animation Episode 3

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Stuff…happens.

OUR TAKE

It’s another week in City, where I enjoyed all of it plenty but so much different stuff happened that I struggle with what to say about it! I guess I could go over each segment and see if that at least gets me somewhere, but I wonder if it’ll be enough. The first part involves a play director trying to get animals to follow his script, but they end up attacking him unless he gives them food, so the joke is really just that the animals are really violent and probably shouldn’t be forced to act in plays. Next, a girl named Riko (who is apparently the sister of one of the main three) slips a bunch which causes her life to flash before her eyes several times. This one was pretty relatable as I’ve been in several situations where I missed a stair step or something was slightly lower than I thought and I would go into instant panic mode, so this one really got me. Later, in the post-credit gag that I guess is going to be a regular thing, she gets helped a lot on a test when she’s about to pass out. Then there’s a bit of a gag about buying under-priced cheap stale bread versus overpriced artisan bread that probably lands better if you’re a local.

That leads into the main segment, if indeed any of these could be called main segments, that involves the Mont Blanc Trio going after a treasure based on an outdated map after smacking themselves with a type of fan and debating how the types of strikes from it equate the users feelings about who they are hitting. The treasure hunt is funny and erratic like the rest of the show and displays the characters’ individual personalities and dynamics. Like…I don’t really know how to describe it more than simply telling you to just go watch it. This series has a style of humor that turns something mundane over the top, which is honestly pretty good for making things that would normally be uninteresting into high comedic points. That’s the same as it was in the first two episodes, in this current third episode, and very likely will be the case for the remaining ten. And I don’t think there will be much character development that lasts so I don’t know what I’ll be keeping track of other than if the next episode has funny parts. So…I hope it’s funny!
