Review: The Great North “It’s Compli-skated Adventure”
Overview
Judy tells a story to help Alanis Morissette fall asleep. Beef’s romantically obsessed stalker, Zelda Blop, returns to Lone Moose with a surprise.
Our Take
I feel like it’s been a while since we’ve seen the almighty Alanis but it’s good to hear her voice, especially when it’s fan-ficcing romantic comedies with Judy. That’s right, this week’s episode of The Great North is actually Judy reminiscing about events that had happened but both with and not within her presence (which I found a bit odd). Eventually, the two plots do coalesce but not without some swerving in traffic that nearly leads to a head-on collision.
Asha Michelle Wilson helps deliver a rather muddled result but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some fun along the way. Ironically, the story that had nothing to do with Judy in it ends up being the more comical of the two and boy I hope we get to see more of Zelda and Rib-eye in the near future because the latter seems like an excellent fit to an already sizable cast. “Ribbie” is the perfect Wario to Beef’s Mario and I’m here for it now and forever.
Competition storylines are a dime-a-dozen for me, by far the most used of all cliched plot premises and more so when those premises involve a bunch of kids of which this one does. That said, Russell was kind of the MVP of this whole bit because for whatever reason they fed the John Gemberling-starring character all of the best lines this week and he had be cracking up on more than a few occasions.
I’m trying really hard to not use my anti-bias against Judy as a character to sink her whole portion of the episode, and I’m not going to because the rest of the kids were pretty funny and the twist ending featured a soft dismount that should assuage fans of The Great North.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
