Review: Universal Basic Guys “Deer Stakes”
Overview
Mark accidentally murders Hank with a crossbow while hunting a deer; Mark’s neighbor David struggles to keep deer from eating his garden.
Our Take
We’re at the penultimate episode of the first season of Universal Basic Guys and you have to admit, this show has done everything FOX has asked the show to do thus far. To date, the show is the biggest animated comedy debut of the year in terms of TV ratings and the series has already been renewed for a second season.
It’s episode ideas like this that will surely see the series last for a really long time. Two guys getting random ideas from Joe Rogan, and seeing how these ideas come to fruition. It works! And it’s a reservoir of ideas that the series could literally use for decades and probably not worry about running out ever.
We’ve seen a number of animated series feature deer-hunting and Universal Basic Guys didn’t veer too different from the pack here, but David’s vegetable garden had a fantastic climax that made the whole episode worth it. In fact, that’s one of the strengths of Universal Basic Guys as a whole is the series always makes sure that multiple plots meet at a head and that’s certainly the case with this series week in and week out.
Can the show wrap the first season on a high note? We’ll find out the weekend before New Year’s!!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
