It’s the final countdown! The musical madman Concerto is back and making one last-ditch effort to rid the world of Rick and Morty! Our ignorant, intrepid heroes must travel to an underwater lair for a final showdown, where they’ll face off with Concerto and his crew of musically gifted cronies, and finally discover just what the f**k all of this mess is truly about.

Our Take

In what appears to be the final new release from Rick and Morty comics in 2024, Oni Press releases what is ostensibly a backstory to Concerto and what his overall problem is with Rick Sanchez. The result is a fascinating tale of how Rick managed to create another villain, one that really never had the microscope put on him during the show’s prominent seasons but does so in comics which is pretty standard fare for licensed efforts like this.

BROCKTON MCKINNEY manages to write up a comical affair that works even in it’s albeit modest 40-page length while JARRETT WILLIAMS delivers the goods on the visuals. One bit I wasn’t too thrilled about was the lettering which felt extra smooshed this issue whence compared to previous issues making certain bubbles difficult to read. Fortunately, I was able to make it through and report that Oni Press wraps the year on a solid issue of Rick and Morty.
