Screen Australia And ABC Reveals Adult Animation Fresh Blood Slate For 2024
Every year Screen Australia and ABC put together a launchpad initiative to uncover up-and-coming talent in the entertainment space with notable alumnus that includes Smiling Friends’ Michael Cusack. The 2023 rendition saw a number of notable pitches that were selected from 400 entrants that then received $50,000 to make three comedy shorts of 3 x 5 – minutes duration. A couple of adult animation selections came from that and now we’ve got the fruits of that labor showcased for the first time down below. So far, the network has posted episodes of Starship Q and Day Job, but not yet Kingsland which we will update should the network release those shorts.
Starship Q
Based on the award-winning fiction podcast created by Meegan May and Lauren Anderson, STARSHIP Q STAR follows the “first all women and non-binary crew” on a PR mission to Mars, when they inadvertently end up the last six humans in the universe.
Day Job
Day Job is a Fresh Blood project by Paul Georghiou, Brooke Kymberley, Todor Manojlovic and Heather Riley. Day Job is an animated documentary that follows the lives of the over-qualified young staff of a dingy local bowling alley. Watch as that dream life of passion, love and career triumph always narrowly eludes them. But that stack of used bowling shoes is always there for them, just waiting to be cleaned.
KINGSLAND
From Josh Yasserie George Coles and Jon Rex Williams comings Kingsland. Reg, a hot-headed animated First Nations man living in real-world Redfern, gets evicted from his home and goes in search of his place of belonging (which he can’t remember) guided only by the spirit of his late wife Agnes and Wiiny: a little gum-stoned furry flirt who he can’t understand.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
