English Dub Review: Banished From The Hero’s Party, I Decided To Live A Quiet Life In The Countryside “Let’s Go On a Quiet Little Journey”

Overview

Red proceeds to the mountain range called the Wall at the World’s End with his lover Rit and sister Ruti. It was supposed to be an easy trip to get materials for an engagement ring to give to Rit, Meanwhile, Yarandala an old Elven friend of Rit’s comes to pay a visit after hearing where he’s last been sighted…

Our Take

Red and Ritt return and are just as cute and wholesome as they’ve ever been. Of course, they’re in the process of cementing their marriage status by going to get materials to make engagement rings since this is a fantasy world where you have to explore and make your shit. Thankfully, Ruti is with them, and much like Season One’s conclusion, she seems content with breaking away from the “Divine Blessing” Powers that kept her from suppressing emotions and learning what it means to be human while finding a balance within herself.

While this is going on, two other plot threads are happening with one of them involving the character Yarandala forcing a criminal to take them to Red’s home village, while another storyline involves a “New Hero” slightly similar to how Ruti was in Season one being conditioned in a church to take up the mantle Ruti has broken away from and has a developed a twisted philosophy of life and Death that’s further exemplified when he treats a tragedy they failed to stop as a “Circle of Life” moment which is kinda horrifying and defeats the purpose of being a hero due to how little he cares about avoiding unwanted casualties…

Overall, this was quite a good setup for the new season. I wasn’t familiar with this series until I took the time to see the first season to know what I was getting myself into, but at least it wasn’t as dull as the show’s title makes it out to be. The first Season had actual conflict about living your own life vs other people’s expectations and showing what’s possible for you in terms of walking your own path. So I’m curious to see what this will all culminate towards in later storylines, and whether or not Red and Ritt will achieve their goal of making their wedding happen.
