English Dub Review: Dr. Stone: New World: “Science Vessel Perseus”

Overview: Senku (Aaron Dismuke) and the gang finish the last few touches on the ship as they decide who is going on the ocean venture.

Our Take: The final preparations for the ship act more as padding for the second half of the episode. That mostly comes down to the revisions feeling inconsequential with a one-year time skip montage constructing the ship, Perseus. There’s a few fun activities sprinkled in between, but are so short-lived they end up being forgettable.

Minami’s growing sadness at their potentially permanent separation hones in on Senku’s warmth that he hides. He’s often construed as uncaring, but it’s these little intimate moments that help solidify his compassion for his friends.

There aren’t many surprises in the lineup for the main voyage with it being the core cast overall. Hyoga and Homura’s imprisonment on the ship is a surprise, adding a layer of tension to the ship’s trek.

Ginro, surprisingly, wins the bulk of this episode with his looney scheming to seem more brave than he is to women. His delusional imagination is a shining example of utterly hilarious and ridiculous he is as a character. A nice laugh to end on with an episode that generally fell short. The team’s mission to retrieve Byakuya’s rocket will hopefully be the real kick start with an engaging new invention and lore surrounding his dad’s crew.
