English Dub Review: Urusei Yatsura “Ten is Here / A Date for Just the Two of Us”
Overview:
Lum’s cousin Ten thinks Lum should look for greener romantic pastures! And if Lum can’t see reason, Ten will burn her relationship with Ataru to the ground.
Our Take:
If the old saying “If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all” applied to the review industry I don’t think I would ever write a review for Urusei Yatsura. No one is more disappointed than I am because I love when classic anime get a reboot and I thought this was the best time ever to check out this one. Then again maybe it was always this annoying, we get another new character and this one isn’t much better.
Not only does Ataru hit on every woman in sight but it’s essentially sexual harassment at this point because all of his affections are unwanted and at least in the case of Sakura she has said “No” and “Leave me alone” multiple times. This makes the comedy part of this show not ever that funny because it feels gross. Maybe, if they seemed more receptive to his advances but none of them are except for the one person he isn’t interested in ironically. That is also weird to me because when he first saw Lum he was all into it but now that she is actually into him he isn’t interested? Weird.
One gag I enjoyed was Sakura reading the letter she received and the show bleeping the bad words. It’s a favorite of mine in any medium really so they found my weak spot. Still not good enough to make me like this garbage.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
