English Dub Review: Hana-Kimi “Did You Do It?!”
Overview:
Someone sabotaged the shoot and destroyed the photos. So now they’re doing a shoot on location.
Our Take(Spoilers):
As someone who prides themself on recognizing VAs, one thing about anime can be frustrating. When there’s a VA you can recognize but can’t quite place them, and they play a minor character, it’s hell to try and find them credited. One of the assistants that helps Akiha sounds so familiar, and I want to know who it is. Not being able to figure it out feels like having to sneeze but not being able to. That’s a weird way to describe it, but that’s what it feels like, okay!
Now, as for this episode, we got more modeling for the crew. I was under the impression that only Mizuki was being invited to model, but it turns out that everyone was. They got some excellent photos, but there was quite a problem. The photos went missing the next day, and when they were finally found, they were all destroyed. There was one person who seemed a likely culprit: the model who wasn’t chosen for this particular job, Mari.
In no way do I condone Mari’s behavior. I suppose we don’t know that it was her who did this, but it seems fairly certain. Having said that, I can understand why she’s upset. I would assume that she’s been working hard for most of her life to reach where she is now. So seeing a bunch of high schoolers come in and take over a job you’ve been working at would be disheartening, to say the least. She still shouldn’t have done what she did, but I can understand it.
What I don’t understand is how that whole situation with Sano’s brother is apparently a non-issue. I couldn’t tell if this modeling situation was going to be a full-on arc or just a minor thing. Well, it’s looking to be a big thing because Mizuki has decided that she wants to model. I think it’s interesting that she still hasn’t realized that Akiha knows she’s a girl.
Back to the brother thing, I really thought that was going to be a bigger deal. Sano’s brother ran off, and we haven’t heard from him since. I wasn’t very interested in the modeling to begin with, so I was sad that we weren’t following up on the runaway brother, but I’m starting to warm up to it. But I would still like to see some romantic progress soon.
