English Dub Review: The Ancient Magus’ Bride “The cowl does not make the monk.”

Overview:

Two separate conversations reveal the multitude of revelations that Chise and Elias have had about one another and the ways they’ve both grown and changed. Hazel guides them on a dangerous shortcut back to the College.

Our Take:

So, Elias has always looked like a skeleton thing but at one point he was really tiny and it was pretty cute. We got a little bit of backstory about Elias and it was pretty cool. One thing, if you are in this for the romance angle that might be a little disappointing, is the fact that Elias has an interesting idea of what he thinks a bride is. He just sees it as someone he is close to but there isn’t much in the way of romantic love in his mind it seems but that could always come later.

Chise learned of a back way to travel that almost takes her into a magical realm. The only problem is there are some pretty fearsome creatures that roam this realm and aren’t too happy to have visitors it seems. But with Hazel’s help, they give an offering that appeases them for now but I wouldn’t be surprised if some conflict with them cropped up later. I’m just glad Chise is okay and we get more of this whimsical adventure a little while longer.
