English Dub Review: By the Grace of the Gods “Ryoma and the Crime Prevention Drill”

Overview

Thugs are attacking Ryoma’s business and assaulting Ryoma at night. The adults around Ryoma suspect that something nefarious is going on, so they start an investigation while Ryoma works on improving security at his business…

Our Take

Ryoma’s business is becoming very successful so naturally (and consequently), some people would want to try and scam them. This is exemplified when faction leader conflicts begin to encroach on Ryoma’s business. And Higher-ups want to disrupt their competitors and anyone who supports Ryoma. resulting in him having to beef up security for his shop. But thankfully and ironically, it’s nothing that violence can’t solve.

I also found it funny to see all the desk clerks defending that store from Ryoma himself in that training. Hiring a special guard from the adventurers guild to help too. I also love that Ryoma has created a better workplace environment for those people who were mistreated in their last jobs and his intimate knowledge as a salaryman from his previous life is helping him set a good example in terms of running a business.

Overall, this episode takes an interesting direction and also goes to show that Ryoma can handle pressure when the situation calls for it. I really didn’t expect this show to focus so much on the business aspect, but thankfully it wasn’t boring since it gives the show and the universe it’s set in a pretty unique feel, and you can’t help but respect how Ryoma responds to problems despite realizing his reputation is on the line.
