English Dub Review: Golden Kamuy “Rushin’ Outta Russia”

Overview

As Sugimoto and the members of the 7th Division head back into Japanese territory, they’re attacked by a sniper.


Our Take

We’re finally back after the big reunion last season and the confrontation with Ogata. Revealing himself to be the true villain the group should be worried about. Ogata is fixated on Asirpa since the secret to the gold map is locked in her memories. Thankfully he’s gone, for now, eventually, he will return but now just getting out of Russia is a priority.

Even more so afterwards when we follow Kadokura and Kirawus who are working for Hijikata and trying to find Hijikata and Ushiyama who have gone missing. Lots of laughs following these two as they investigate. Luckily it seems like Kadokura has impeccable luck even if he doesn’t realize it.

Overall while it wasn’t a very action-heavy episode by any means, it was mostly worked as more of a solid return to this series and setup for what’s to come. But for the most part, it was more or less an expositional setup/info dump episode. Upon research, this season is also being done by a different animation team known as Brain’s Base instead of Geno Studio, but the content was still well-delivered and paced out, which is good to see and I look forward to seeing what comes next!
