English Dub Review: Oshi no Ko “Greed and Passion”
Overview:
As the movie project kicks into gear, Masaya Kaburagi goes to work, putting both sides of himself on show.
Our Take:
Kaburagi wants one person to play Ai in the upcoming movie, but Gotanda wants another. Gotanda wants Ruby to play Ai, and they have her blindly audition because she might not handle it well knowing she’s auditioning to play her mother. There are three people up for the part. Ruby, Akane, and Frill Shiranui. Frill is the only one who knows what the part is because she more or less has the part already. She wants to have an impromptu audition with the three of them, and this whole thing got me going down a rabbit hole.
I decided to see how many kids have played their deceased parents in a film or movie before. It’s happened a lot more times than I thought it had. In some cases, it was kids playing a younger version of a character their parents were famous for, so I didn’t count those. But when you think about it, it makes sense for Ruby to play that part because she will even have the mannerisms down, as well as the look. But I can see why that might be traumatic and why certain people don’t want her to do that. One thing Aqua needs to do is not think that he has to do everything alone, but I think that’s like telling water not to make things wet.
