English Dub Review: Requiem of the Rose King “The devil has the devil’s way”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Elizabeth plots revenge from her sanctuary in Westminster Abbey, while Richard seeks support for a usurpation. All of their hopes and fears hang on the outcome of the next council.

Our Take:
With Elizabeth’s oldest son now taking the throne, it was only a matter of time before we saw Richard’s next part of his plan in action. That time, in particular, happens to be the upcoming council, which will determine Richard’s coronation to be crowned king. But unfortunately, Queen Elizabeth has another few tricks up her sleeve to prevent that from happening.
One of them involves Lord Hastings, who’s ordered to betray Richard and his allies. Another trick is exposing Richard’s true identity to the entire kingdom, thanks to Cecily. This resulted in a standoff between Richard and Hastings amid the council meeting, only to be interrupted by Catesby.
This show still knows how to keep me consistently engaged with its dialogue-driven moments and shocking cliffhangers, and this episode is no exception to that cause. While its plot centers on Richard and Buckingham’s plan to win over the council, it also takes its sweet time to focus on Catesby, who’s caught in a complex battle within himself regarding whom to serve. The thing about Catesby is that he’s always willing to stand alongside Richard despite him being intersex.
The ending shows that even though Hastings orders him to kill Richard, Catesby still vows to protect him at all costs regardless. But, of course, the episode immediately ends with a stunning cliffhanger, leaving Catesby’s fate to be unknown until next week. Catesby proves himself to be a splendid supporting character throughout the series because of his loyalty and the flashbacks involving him and Richard as kids, and it’s nice to see that representation continues in this eye-opening episode. It would be a tragedy if he happens to get killed by Hastings, but we won’t know for sure until the show’s next chapter.
