English Dub Review: The Strongest Sage With the Weakest Crest “The Strongest Sage Duels.”

Overview

The Radinia Alliance contains a device that will let Matthias track down the mastermind demon. But to enter the territory where the device lies, he must defeat a Rank S adventurer who might just give him a run for his money!

Our Take

Alma, Lurie, and Matty now are in the search of the demon boss and they are going to pinpoint his location using a special device made by Matty in his previous life and it’s at some other place. As they proceed to visit the capital briefly for permission to visit another territory, it turns out that the place where the device is is in a restricted part of the land. So they have to be rank A adventurers to get access to that region. We also see Matty duel an S rank adventurer, which was quite an action scene. The dude was using spells unconsciously, that’s something, he was able to put a decent fight with Matty but obviously and predictably of course Matty won, and the opponent wasn’t a jerk about it too.

The Second Academy’s branch has now become a re-building ground to strengthen forces against demons, and with the First Academy’s help no less, I’m not surprised that it turned out this way given the previous episodes had an egocentric headmaster with a backward-thinking mentality. Of course, Matty’s report of the Dungeon City Melkia infested with demons takes priority, but the school’s rebuilding is first and foremost. So I guess it’s best left for the students to do rather than Matty’s group going to the Radinia Alliance instead.

Overall, a solid episode that moves the plot forward. For an Anime that likes to speed past plot points, this episode was filled to the brim with contrived filler. The plan to put an enemy mob to sleep on their way to Folkia was nicely done with Iris stealing the show. Although, it did put Alma and Lurie to sleep as well, which was a bit wacky, but cute at the same time.
