Review: It’s Pony “Pighog Day/Second Best Friend”

Overview

“Pighog Day”
Everything goes wrong for Annie on Pighog Day

“Second Best Friend”
Annie’s struggle to believe that Pony’s friend is a fly puts her own friend, Gerry, in jeopardy.

Our Take

The first episode is an obvious “Groundhog day” equivalent with the much of humor relying heavily on the fact that all Annie has to do is point a finger at a Pig to determine if SPring happens which is even wackier when you learn that Pony serves as her bodyguard/publicist, and Annie’s father George has a traumatic history pertaining to this that deserves closure.

As for the 2nd episode, much of the humor reaches unexpected levels of absurdity as we meet a tiny housefly that turns out to have a strong significance for not only Pony as a character, but also within the plot’s proceedings. Annie and all her classmates are assigned to do a specific art project, especially when Gerry is indirectly involved through unfortunate circumstances that lead to a really funny ending.

Overall, both episodes were weird yet fun in different ways. While the first episode wasn’t very subtle in it referencing the holiday aspect of “groundhog day”. We did learn a bit about George’s past and why he’s put so much pressure into Annie’s simplistic job in pointing a finger at a Pig. Also, I did get a small chuckle out of Pony playing “Bouncer” to Annie’s every movement. While Art episode gave me some unexpected laughs due to certain people within Pony’s circle giving a shit about something that kinda blind-sided both Annie and the audience. It’s unclear if we’ll see this Fly again in later episodes, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we do.
