English Dub Review: Bottom-Tier Character Tomozaki “Sometimes you conquer a dungeon only to find a strong boss back in your village”
Overview
Izumi brings the titular Fumiya Tomozaki to her house to have him teach her how to play ‘TakFam” due to her boyfriend Nakamura spending more of his time playing the game. Afterward, Aoi gives Fumiya a pair of tickets for a movie preview screening to ask Fūka out on a date.
On the following school day, Fumiya converses with Fūka in the library but does not ask her to go to the movies. As Fumiya is about to leave school for the day, he encounters Nakamura’s circle of friends and who forces Fumiya to stay and play Attack Families against a vengeful Nakamura with Aoi, Izumi, and a clique led by the school Diva named Erika who also watches…
Our Take
I guess Fumiya beating Shuji a few episodes back had some unintended consequences. Given his nature of getting revenge for his loss is perfectly natural. While practice certainly makes your skills sharpen with a busted stopwatch sure is an odd one. Still, thanks to Aoi’s training so far Fumiya’s ability to teach others about the game without any problems was quite impressively detailed. Granted, he’s at some level stuck in his way of thinking for too long which certainly makes it hard for him to instantly change and proves that self-improvement isn’t something that just happens overnight…
But it’s nice to see Izumi work so hard in her determination to catch up with her crush. Kudo’s to Fumiya though for deciding to be honest with Fuuka about a small confession. As for Erika, she comes across as annoying and easy to hate but did well to set the scene for Fumiya’s verbal outburst against Erika being such a hater.
Overall, I can’t believe this anime still hasn’t had a cease and desist from Nintendo for its blatant “Smash Bros. references. And this was a pretty interesting episode that did well to show not just how much Fumiya had changed thanks to the training via his teaching of Izumi but also the effects that this has on those around him as well. With any luck, Izumi should be able to get closer to Shuji. If there’s any lesson I can take from this the most, It’s that there’s always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
