English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun “Sparking Shock”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Kuromu/Crocell goes into a nervous breakdown causing her ice powers to accidentally encase her. In response to this, Her manager, Mal, decides to cancel the show as cooling her body back to normal requires a family member, none of whom will arrive in time. Ameli attends the concert with a ticket from her father, who is working security, while Crocell has a nightmare about disappointing her family then wakes after she should have been on stage, only to realize that in an effort to give Crocell time to recover, Iruma with Asmodeus and Clara’s help manages to save the show in the most outrageously weird way imaginable…

Crocell comes to the realization that Iruma, who hates standing out, was willing to do go the extra mile and compromise his own principles to save Crocell’s singing career and decides he isn’t so bad. After a series of other big reveals about Crocell’s family, It cuts back to school where Crocell warns Iruma to keep her secret and they now become friends despite still having some minor issues of Iruma somehow still overshadowing her attention-wise.

Our Take

This episode was definitely a fun one, especially when the comedic twist of Iruma happened with his friends also going along with it. As previously stated, this two-part storyline felt like a “Hannah Montana” episode due to the whole concept of a pop idol/singer living a double life and hiding amongst the normal students in plain sight and Iruma being the main character is perceptive enough to see through Crocell’s deception, but also respectful enough to protect her privacy since celebrity attention can have a lot of ugly aspects to it when your striking gold at such a young age.

Next week is the season finale which leaves me curious how they’ll end it until the previously announced season 2 happens.
