English Dub Review: Tomb Raider King “Tomb Raider King”

Overview

Jooheon and Irene return to the Holton home to heal her parents… only to find that it’s been attacked.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Tomb Raider King’s season finale sees Seo Joo-heon and Irene Holton facing another dangerous challenge involving powerful relics and a threat to those closest to them. As the stakes rise, the story finally gives its supporting characters more opportunities to shine, setting the stage for an action-packed conclusion.

The biggest highlight is undoubtedly Irene, whose sudden power-up gives off what I can only describe as a bizarre mix of a Super Saiyan transformation but with the fiery aura of the Phoenix Force from X-Men. The ensuing battle delivers some of the season’s most impressive animation, with flashy visual effects and fluid action sequences that make for a spectacle. There are also a few amusing comedic moments, although certain developments feel rushed and could have used more explanation.

Overall, despite its inconsistent writing and occasionally frustrating protagonist, Tomb Raider King manages to deliver a surprisingly entertaining finale that leaves me curious about what might come next. The series still has plenty of flaws, but its improved character balance and impressive action make for a stronger finish than I expected. With a random post-credits scene, the door is seemingly open for another season. And hopefully the show can build on this momentum and deliver an even better adventure.
