English Dub Review: Magical Explorer “Staples of Any Eroge”
The third episode of Magical Explorer, titled Staples of Any Eroge, continues Kousuke’s journey as he tries to become stronger in a world based on his favourite game. The episode focuses on his training and an unexpected situation involving Ludivine, adding both character development and action to the adventure story.
Kousuke decides to learn the Mind’s Eye skill. For that, he approaches Mizumori Yukine, the vice-captain of the disciplinary committee and a user of water magic, to train him. It’s interesting to see that even though his knowledge of the original game gives him an advantage, he still needs to develop the skills required to face the challenges ahead.
Meanwhile, Kousuke’s outing with Ludivine takes an unexpected turn when she is kidnapped. The incident is particularly interesting because it happens earlier than it should according to the original game. This forces Kousuke to reconsider what he knows about the story and adapt to a situation he did not anticipate.
The episode also brings Yukine into the rescue mission, as she joins Kousuke in heading to a dungeon to save Ludivine. Their involvement shifts the focus from training to action. It also reinforces one of the central ideas of the series: Kousuke may know the game well, but that knowledge cannot prepare him for every change in its events.
All in all, Staples of Any Eroge is an entertaining episode that balances character development with action and adventure, but it lacks any major developments.
The episode moves between training and the rescue mission, giving the story some variety. However, some of its developments feel more like setup for future events than meaningful turning points in the story. Kousuke’s efforts to learn the Mind’s Eye skill provide a glimpse of his determination to become stronger, while Ludivine’s kidnapping gives the story a sense of urgency. The changes to the original game also make his journey more unpredictable.
