English Dub Review: Hell Mode: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World With Garbage Balancing “Extra Skill”
Overview:
Allen’s party is determined to retake the Elven capital, regardless of what Helmios says.
Our Take(Spoilers):
This show is pretty low budget I would say but that doesn’t mean it’s not good. The animation isn’t as good as a lot of the other shows out there and it can occasionally take you out of it. But when it comes to the content of the show I would say that’s been pretty good. I have more questions than answers which is annoying and maybe I’m forecasting what might happen but I’m okay with it at the moment.
The way this episode ends makes it seem like we’re going to lose a character. Up until this point, death hasn’t really been a thing that we’ve had to deal with. Only monsters have been killed and even when that happens they more or less just disappear. Dogora decides to go after the Demon Diety and it sure seems like he’s going out in a blaze of glory. The bright side is the name of the episode and the fact that Dogora starts glowing leads me to believe that maybe his extra skill will help him survive this encounter.
When it comes to the Demon Deity, it looks like most bad guys have a sad backstory. He has taken over the world tree because he was one of the dark elves who were exiled from their home a long time ago. I don’t know how a dark elf becomes a demon but that sure seems to me like what happened in this case. I like when a bad guy isn’t just evil to be evil but I would like to see a little more explanation than what we got because I feel like he could have gone to less lengths for what he wanted.
Allen tried to sacrifice himself but instead Dogora does what Allen tried to do. Everyone kept giving Dogora crap for not being able to get his extra skill to activate. I almost hope that he doesn’t get it to activate because I think it would be more impactful if he dies giving his friends the chance to escape without being able to use his skill. People who do brave things aren’t typically doing them because they assume they’ll survive; it’s usually the opposite. I’m torn though because I don’t want Dogora to die but it would be nice for this show to finally have some stakes.
