English Dub Review: Ascendance of a Bookworm: Adopted Daughter of an Archduke “Wilfried’s Actions”

Overview

Rosemyne discovers Wilfried’s actions, and a meeting is convened to determine the truth of the matter.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, Ascendance of a Bookworm finally feels like the story is gaining some momentum. Wilfried’s latest mistake is frustrating, but it’s hard not to feel sorry for him when he was so easily manipulated by the Veronica faction. He’s still a child who hasn’t been properly prepared for the political world around him, making him an easy target. His actions still have consequences, though, and it was satisfying to see the truth behind the situation finally come to light.

The episode also raises some interesting questions about how the nobles handle information and security. Wilfried is expected to understand the consequences of his actions while being kept in the dark about important details, and his attendants certainly don’t do much to help him. Rozemyne continues to stand out by being far more mature and politically aware than someone her age should be, while her disagreements with Ferdinand offer some interesting perspectives on justice and punishment. Charlotte’s introduction was another nice touch, and she already seems like a more composed presence than her older brother.

Overall, this was a solid episode that finally brings some much-needed political intrigue into the story. Wilfried’s situation adds some interesting tension, while the continued conflict between Rozemyne and Ferdinand gives the episode some great character moments. With only a few episodes left, I’m hoping the series keeps this momentum going and gives Rozemyne plenty more opportunities to steal the spotlight.
