The Venture Bros. Co-Creator Jackson Publick Reveals an “Order of the Triad” Spinoff Was Pitched

The Venture Bros. remains one of Adult Swim’s most celebrated original series, but fans just learned about a major “what could have been” moment in the franchise’s history.

Co-creator Jackson Publick revealed on social media that he and co-creator Doc Hammer actively developed and pitched a spinoff series centered around The Order of the Triad—the fan-favorite trio consisting of Dr. Byron Orpheus, Jefferson Twilight, and The Alchemist. However, the project was ultimately passed on.

Inside the Order of the Triad Pitch

Taking to Instagram, Publick shared a newly surfaced piece of animated artwork (seen above) featuring the mystical superhero team. In his comments section, he offered fans context on how close the project actually came to reality.

Who Are the Order of the Triad?

First introduced in Season 2 of The Venture Bros., the Order of the Triad formed as a comedic counter-balance to the series’ absurd super-science and villain bureaucracy. The group includes:

  • Dr. Byron Orpheus (voiced by Steven Rattazzi): A melodramatic necromancer and tenant at the Venture Compound.

  • Jefferson Twilight (voiced by Charles Parnell): A sword-wielding hero who specializes exclusively in hunting Blaculas.

  • The Alchemist (voiced by Dana Snyder): A snarky, magical researcher and former roommate of Dr. Orpheus.

Together, the trio served as one of the show’s most reliable comedic engines, balancing high-stakes occult battles with mundane suburban squabbles.

The Legacy of The Venture Bros.

Following Adult Swim’s cancellation of The Venture Bros. after seven seasons, Publick and Hammer wrapped up major storylines with the 2023 finale movie The Venture Bros.: Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart.

While the rejection of the Triad spinoff means new stories in the Venture universe remain on hold for now, Publick and Hammer have repeatedly expressed pride in the universe they built over two decades. Whether the Order of the Triad ever gets another shot at the spotlight, the pitch deck serves as a tantalizing reminder of the vast world left behind.
