English Dub Review: Mushoku Tensei “An Audience with an Immortal Demon King”
Overview:
Rudeus and friends locate Kishirika, only to be captured along with her by the guards of a warlike Demon King.
Our Take(Spoilers):
When I first watched Mushoku Tensei, there wasn’t an English dub yet. It was at the beginning of 2021, and simuldubs had been paused. So when I first started watching it was in Japanese, and the character of Kishirika hasn’t been in the show since then. So I had no idea that she was voiced by Jamie Marchi. She became one of my favorite VAs back when I first watched High School DxD, because she voices Rias Gremory. I always find it fascinating when the first role you hear someone in becomes their main role in your eyes. For example, Billy Kametz is the Shield Hero to me because that was the first thing I ever heard him in.
Another thing I’ve noticed about this show that is pretty unique to most anime is that it technically has an opening song, but most episodes of Mushoku Tensei don’t have a traditional opening. In case you’re interested, this show has three different opening themes so far, all of them by Yuiko Ohara. She’s done all of the opening themes for the series thus far, and I definitely recommend you give them a listen if you haven’t already.
Rudeus and friends tracked down Kishirika, and she does, in fact, know of a cure for the ailment afflicting Nanahoshi. Unfortunately, it is a grass that was destroyed during the last human-demon war. Fortunately, though, Kishirika saved some and knows how to cultivate it. Unfortunately again, the Immortal Demon King Atofe is looking for Kishirika, and she also can cultivate the grass. So, under threat of violence, Rudeus and the group hand her over. It wasn’t all bad because Zanoba and Rudeus were able to fend off Atofe long enough for them to escape the castle with both the grass and Kishirika in tow.
Atofe was waiting for them, unfortunately. I want to point out that I know I’ve used the word “unfortunately” a lot in this review, but there were a lot of unfortunate things that happened. Luckily for our heroes, though, Atofe is extremely stupid. She sent one of her warriors to scout where the transportation circle went, and Perugius came to the rescue. All’s well that ends well, I guess?
