English Dub Review: Kaiju Girl Caramelise “Fly to Manatsu’s Kaiju Island!!”
Overview:
Manatsu takes a trip to woo Harugon and invites Kuroe and Raimu to be her wingmen.
Our Take(Spoilers):
At this point, I think it would make things a lot easier for Kuroe and her friends if she told them the truth about Harugon. Minami would realize why he shouldn’t be making TV appearances and talking to the press. Manatsu would understand why Harugon seems infatuated with Minami, and I think that would be better for her too. Then she wouldn’t have to waste her time chasing a creature that won’t return her feelings. Instead, I think she might have made things worse by showing up and bringing Manatsu, so now she feels her feelings are being reciprocated.
Manatsu decides to go to a kaiju island in hopes of summoning Harugon. There are rumors that kaiju are linked to this island and that the people who used to live there were eaten by a kaiju. We’re led to believe that those rumors were exaggerated when the girls run into a Komodo dragon. But it turns out there are creatures on the island that have some similar characteristics to Harugon. Kuroe also found some eggs that have a striking similarity to the one her mother has.
Her mother saw the island on the news and got very concerned for Kuroe, and we saw a bit of a flashback to her finding the egg. I don’t know how Kuroe could look so human-like if she was birthed out of an egg like those other creatures, but the mystery has been one of the more enjoyable aspects. The only issue is that we’re getting close to the end of the season, and I don’t think that we’re going to get all the answers we would like.
As for Minami, he goes on a talk show because he’s convinced that it would be the easiest way to take the heat off. He is hoping that if he does this, he won’t have to hide his relationship with Kuroe to protect her. I can’t say I don’t see the logic behind it, but let’s be honest: if there was somone that seemed to have a connection to a giant monster, we wouldn’t forget about that after a few days.
This show started strong, and it’s still one of my favorites of the season, but this episode was a bit of a snoozer. It could end up being more important than it seems because of the island and the eggs that were discovered. But Kuroe’s mother seems to think it’s a completely different island, and now she’s off somewhere else. I hope we get some payoff soon.
