English Dub Review: Goodbye, Lara “The Princess with a Blade”
Overview:
Lara’s family starts to awaken as the witch’s magic is lifted. They are desperate for Lara’s light.
Our Take(Spoilers):
According to MAL, we only have two episodes left following this one. That means we’ll likely have a lot crammed into the last two episodes, because it feels like we’re nowhere near the end. It is starting to feel like the “true love” Lara is seeking will come from Mari, but at this stage it’s hard to tell whether it will be romantic. I could honestly see it go either way. But before that, Mari has her own issues that she’s going to have to deal with.
With Lara going missing, this leads to Mari’s family and coworkers understandably having some questions about what is happening with Lara. Mari realizes that no one will believe her, and it makes me feel a little bad for the kids in this scenario. Sure, most of us aren’t going to be dealing with mermaids and witches, but I’d like to think that if my normally down-to-earth kid started talking about stuff like that, then I would listen to them. I don’t think Mari’s family believed her, but at the very least, they didn’t admonish her or anything.
Luckily, Mari’s brother and Luca decide to help look for Lara and Grace, but it seems that Grace is dead now. That’s what we’re led to believe, at least until one of her eel things grabs Mari and pulls her underwater. This is where the episode leaves us, and I still think we have one big twist left in the show. Mainly because of how Grace reacted to King Rowan waking up.
They want us to believe that Grace wanted to cause him harm and was even trying to kill him. What I think is that Grace was in love with Rowan or something, and there’s something else going on. Or I could even see Grace disagreeing with how Rowan views humans and wanting him out of the way. In that scenario, I could see her legitimately being violent towards him.
If nothing else, this show has been a beautifully animated work that evokes feelings of watching a Studio Ghibli film. The story has been serviceable enough to keep me intrigued and invested. I’m just worried that we’re going to get a sloppy ending, unless a second season is planned or something.
