Lucasfilm Unleashes Epic First Trailer for Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi
The galaxy far, far away is breaking out of the anthology mold. At Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Lucasfilm officially unveiled the first full trailer and key art for “Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi,” a highly anticipated spin-off that marks the franchise’s first full-length, long-form anime series.
Produced in collaboration with the legendary Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Psycho-Pass), the eight-episode limited series is scheduled to drop entirely on August 5, 2026, streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
Expanding a Fan-Favorite Mythology
When the original “The Ninth Jedi” short debuted in the first volume of Star Wars: Visions, it immediately captured the imagination of fans. Set in a distant, post-Skywalker future where the Jedi Order is extinct and lightsabers are ancient relics, it felt less like a one-off short and more like the pilot to a massive new saga.
The new series bridges the narrative from that original short and its subsequent follow-up interlude, The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope. The story continues to follow Lah Kara, a young, Force-sensitive protagonist who is continuing her training under Margrave Juro. Together with Juro’s small fellowship of Jedi-in-training, Kara embarks on a high-stakes quest across the galaxy to rescue her father—a legendary lightsaber-smith who was captured by Sith hunters.
What the Trailer Reveals
The newly released trailer showcases Production I.G’s striking, colorful aesthetic, blending classic samurai cinema sensibilities with grandiose space opera. The series leans heavily into the lore’s most unique concept: lightsabers whose blade colors dynamically change and adjust based on the alignment and purity of the wielder’s heart.
The trailer also introduces a formidable new masked antagonist named Nawaam (voiced in the English dub by Young Mazino). Clad in dark armor with a modulated voice, Nawaam claims his actions are meant to bring “order to the chaos” of the galaxy, plotting to build a devastating Kyber-powered superweapon to eradicate what remains of the Jedi.
The creative team behind the series includes:
-
Supervising Director: Kenji Kamiyama
-
Director: Shunsuke Tada
-
Writer: Mitsuyasu Sakai
-
English Voice Cast: Chase Sui Wonders (Tafflah), Feodor Chin (Gennoh), Young Mazino (Nawaam), and Keone Young (Kwana).
The Dawn of “Visions Presents”
“The Ninth Jedi” is spearheading a brand-new initiative for Lucasfilm: the Star Wars: Visions Presents banner. Moving forward, this label will be used to elevate and expand the most popular standalone shorts from the Visions anthologies into fully realized, multi-episode series. It gives global animation creators the freedom to explore deep lore, philosophy, and high-concept Force dynamics entirely unburdened by the main live-action continuity.
Mark your calendars—all eight episodes of Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi arrive on August 5.
