English Dub Review: Full Clearing Another World Under a Goddess with Zero Believers “Makoto Takatsuki Becomes a Believer”

Overview

Based on the Japanese light novel series written by Isle Ōsaki and illustrated by Tam-U, the story follows hardcore gamer Makoto Takatsuki, who, after a bus accident, finds himself transported to another world alongside his classmates. While everyone else receives powerful abilities, Makoto is left with the skills of a weak apprentice mage. Determined to forge his own path, he encounters Noa, a minor goddess with no believers, and agrees to become her first follower in exchange for her divine assistance. Together, the unlikely duo will use clever tactics and determination to overcome formidable challenges, all while trying to survive in a dangerous world where his classmates are either presumed missing or deceased…

Our Take

For the series premiere, Makoto Takatsuki finds himself reincarnated in a fantasy world alongside his classmates after dying in an acident involving an Avalanche burying a bus during a Ski-Trip. Unlike the others, he receives weak stats and basic abilities, including Calm Mind, Beginner Water Magic, and RPG Player. After spending a year training and being rejected by Princess Sophia, the Water Priestess of Goddess Eir, Makoto sets out on his own. When he takes on a quest to rescue a merchant from monsters, he relies on clever tactics to overcome his disadvantages before encountering a minor goddess desperate for her first believer.

The setup is fairly standard for an isekai, and the average animation is occasionally let down by questionable goblin CGI. Nevertheless, Makoto’s resourcefulness and the game’s RPG mechanics offer some potential, while the mysterious goddess brings a welcome dose of humor and personality. The mystery surrounding a missing girl also adds a little intrigue without taking away from the episode’s straightforward introduction.

Overall, this was a decent start that doesn’t quite stand out from the crowd so far, but offers enough to keep me interested. Makoto’s unconventional abilities and his amusing new partnership could lead to some entertaining developments, provided the writing and animation maintain their quality. While there’s room for improvement, I’m willing to give the series a few more episodes to see whether it can deliver something more memorable.
