English Dub Season Review: Classroom of the Elite Season Four

Overview:

As soon as Kiyotaka Ayanokouji and the rest of Class D officially enter their second year at Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School, they face their next special test. Each second-year student must team up with a first-year student to take a written exam. Although the test seems simple enough, every pair must achieve a specific number of points to avoid a harsh penalty, raising the demand for academically proficient individuals.

Our Take(Spoilers):

The gap between season one and season two of Classroom of the Elite was five years. I don’t think we’ll have to wait that long between seasons ever again. The wait between seasons has been pretty consistent at two years. That’s still a pretty long wait, but at least this time we have confirmation that we’ll be getting a fifth season, so that’s good to know.

Season four of Classroom of the Elite was a bit of a mixed bag for me. Ayanokoji and his classmates are now second-years. That means a new class of first-years, and there are a few that make an impression right away. Hosen is an aggressive meathead who fights first and asks questions later. Amasawa is a flirty girl who hides a dark side and a secret. Nanase, who seems to have a problem with Ayanokoji. There are other first-years, of course, but these are the main ones we deal with.

Ayanokoji learns that there is another white room student among the new arrivals. He keeps his guard up throughout the season, even during the island test. The test on the island was where I was a little upset. We already did this way back in season one, almost ten years ago. I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed, but it ended up being different enough to be enjoyable.

During the test, we learn that Amasawa is the white room student, and she’s not what we would expect. We’ve been led to believe that the white room student wants to get rid of Ayanokoji, but Amasawa is in love with him and wants to help him. Nanase is the one who wants to bring him to ruin, but not because she’s a white room student. It’s because she thinks he’s the reason that a friend of hers killed himself.

Hosen got into a fight with Ryuen, and I was surprised how badly Hosen was beating him. It took Ryuen getting his friends to help to have any chance of victory. The first-years definitely made a strong first impression, and I am looking forward to seeing more of them.

The only negative things I have to say about this season are the repeated storyline, but they do make it just different enough. And one of the fight scenes has some laughably bad sound effects. The twists and turns of this season have me excited for the next one. But as I noticed while researching this review, it’s probably going to be about two years before we get some more. I’m just glad that there will be more.
