English Dub Review: The Ghost in the Shell “ROBOT RONDO”
Overview
There has been a rash of attacks against humans by promotional sample robots. Kusanagi’s team rounds up robots of that same model line, and they learn that they all share a common trait. Batou and Togusa head to Hanka Precision Instruments, where they are made, to determine what is behind the attacks…
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, Section 9 investigates a string of violent attacks carried out by rogue androids that appear to be more than simple software malfunctions. As the team follows the trail, Batou and Togusa take center stage in an increasingly unsettling investigation that exposes a much larger conspiracy lurking beneath the surface of a technologically advanced society.
Despite Kusanagi spending surprisingly little time in the spotlight, the episode never loses momentum. Batou and Togusa prove they are more than capable of carrying the story, delivering an engaging mix of detective work, explosive action, and thought-provoking cyberpunk themes. Science SARU also continues to impress with fluid animation, stylish direction, and a moody neo-noir atmosphere that elevates every chase, fight, and tense investigation.
Overall, this is another excellent episode that shows the series doesn’t have to always rely on its iconic lead to remain compelling. While a few of its heavier ideas could have benefited from a bit more room to breathe, the gripping mystery, standout visuals, and strong focus on Batou and Togusa giving off strong “buddy cop” vibes make for one of the season’s most entertaining and memorable installments so far.
