English Dub Review: Smoking Behind The Supermarket With You “Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You”
Overview:
Sasaki is an overworked salaryman who likes to visit the local supermarket to see Yamada, a cheery supermarket cashier. One day, after missing her, he meets a mysterious woman, “Tayama,” who sits down for a smoke with him.
Our Take:
Viewers are introduced to Sasaki, who seems to be the standard put-upon worker. From having to help his co-workers to getting in trouble with his boss, regardless of appearance, he’s meant to be the type of guy anyone can see themselves in, especially in this economy. However, he finds comfort in getting to see a local cashier, Yamada, often visiting the store she works at.
After a stressful meeting that lasts until midnight, Sasaki is further upset to realize that he missed Yamada. However, while deciding to take a smoke break, he befriends a mysterious woman calling herself, “Tayama.”
Surprisingly, the woman seems to know Sasaki and let he often frequents the store, even expressing concern that he’s going after Yamada, though he quickly reassures her otherwise. Of course, the next day, he meets Yamada, who shares, to his embarrassment, that the mystery woman told her she’s a fan.
Sasaki meets up with “Tayama” again. While upset with her teasing and what she said to Yamada, he is still grateful for their past moment, even getting her a snack she wanted to try. Of course, he doesn’t seem to realize that the two women he’s been encountering might be closer than he thinks.
Overall, this anime is a fan for all romantic at hearts. Some viewers might have figured out how the things are going to play out with Sasaki and this mystery girl. Thanks to this, some fans might worry about how this will play out over a whole season. Regardless about how you feel about romance, this is clearly a story that gives millennials wanting a break, smoking or otherwise, something to relate to.
