English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Moving and Girlfriend”

Overview:

The gang of neighbors finds themselves without a home. What will they do next?

Our Take(Spoilers):

Somehow, Kazuya is regressing in character development. I’ve seen characters not grow before, and I’m sure I’ve seen characters go backwards on development, but for whatever reason, it feels incredibly rare. Meanwhile, we got this asshole who can’t even enjoy a night with the girl he’s in love with without freaking out like an idiot. They’ve known each other and been neighbors for two years, and he still has a hard time talking to her and stuff.

Yaemori invited Kazuya to go drinking with her, and she’s been a good friend. Bit of a side tangent here, I like Yaemori as a character because getting a character that isn’t in love with the main character in a harem show is rare. I truly appreciate the fact that she’s just a really good friend and wants to see Kazuya and Chizuru together. I hope that doesn’t change anytime soon because it’s one of the very few things I like about this show.

Alright, so Kazuya and Yaemori go out drinking, and Yaemori decides to be the ultimate wingwoman and sends a picture of Kazuya to Chizuru. This prompts Chizuru to ask if she can join, and she comes out to the bar. This, of course, leads to every single person in the bar commenting on how beautiful she is. If you’ve been reading my reviews on this series for a while, then you will know this is one of my biggest pet peeves. This time was one of the more egregious examples because, don’t get me wrong, Chizuru is an attractive girl, but I’ve never seen people react like that in real-life. Luckily, there were some consequences this time because one guy couldn’t stop staring, so his girlfriend broke up with him.

Chizuru rarely drinks, but she’s putting them back right now. It loosens up her tongue enough that I think she might make some progress. I say that with a huge grain of salt because I know certain parts that happen in the manga, because the internet loves to spoil things. But having said that, while I don’t think we’ll get huge amounts of progress, it does look like they will explain their feelings at least a little bit. I wish Kazuya wasn’t such a spineless loser. I think that’s the most annoying part. We know when this manga ends, he and Chizuru will be together, and he doesn’t deserve that.
