English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Loneliness and Girlfriend”

Overview:

Loneliness torments poor Kazuya, but there is a solution to everything.

Our Take(Spoilers):

I felt like Michael Corleone after watching this episode. Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in. Don’t get me wrong, I still hate this show more than anything, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t intrigued by what could happen. There are a lot of plot threads that could be fun to explore in season six, and if I didn’t have manga knowledge, I would be even more excited. But let’s address everything.

One minor thing I noticed that I hope isn’t a permanent change is Ruka’s voice. I’m fairly certain that Ruka’s voice was completely different in this episode. It was so noticeable to me that for a second I thought it was a different character. Sarah Williams is the usual voice for Ruka, and I love the work she does, so I hope it isn’t going to be a permanent change for season six. If it is, that won’t be good optics for this show if they keep replacing the lead character’s voice actors.

During the drinking session, Chizuru learns that Kazuya will be able to move into a new apartment in a month. So, while she isn’t open to her and Kazuya permanently living together, she is willing to let him stay for a month with a few conditions.

One, Yaemori is also going to be staying in the house to make things a little less “coupley”. I think this will make things more fun because Yaemori is a character I would like to see more of. Now that the three of them will be living together for a while, I imagine we will get to see more of her.

Also, Kazuya will have to stick to his own room, and everyone will share the bathroom. Everyone will help clean and maintain the house. What is a little odd to me is how it feels like Kazuya is supposed to never leave his room. That probably isn’t the case, but that’s how Chizuru made it seem.

I imagine this won’t go over well with Ruka, and honestly, that will be a little fun to watch. But I feel bad for her at this point because of Kazuya’s waffling. Something is going on with Mami as well. It seemed like she was on a date with a guy, but it was giving the vibes of a marriage interview or something. Everyone is left hanging in one way or another.
