English Dub Review: Petals Of Reincarnation “Tattered Talent”

Overview:

The latest episode of Petals of Reincarnation has just dropped, “Tattered Talent,” which starts off with the fight between Jubei and Haitou. However, two more characters with a built-in conflict will soon fight. Meanwhile, another character will be given an interesting offer.

Our Take:

Last episode, Jubei offered to end Haitou’s life as she falls into despair, learning that her father has been dead for quite some time. As things start up, Jubei is able to show her prowess. However, she has a shocking collapse, causing Haitou to call off the fight. As Touya and Jubei retreat, she explains what she thinks is going on in Haitou’s psyche: she is driven by a thirst for power, something that can only culminate in being defeated in battle.

Unable to fight, Jubei reveals her new plan: spending the next three days training Touya to fight instead. This even comes with the offer to use her own Talent.

At this time, however, Ein leads the plans to take the Branches, leading the Returners to play the Three Conquistadors. However, Ein soon gets taken by Albert and Newton, with the former declaring herself the true incarnation of Albert Einstein. Noting that Nightingale is currently weak and can easily be subdued, a challenge is offered. Albert will give away the location of their bases if Ein’s followers can hit her. This starts out the attack.

Overall, this episode can be considered one of the darkest stories viewers have seen in Petals of Reincarnation so far. Touya deals with his own inadequacies as he is presented with Jubei’s offer. In addition, focus is given on the price that must be paid to obtain these talents. Ultimately, the story really seems to set up what will take place as the season soon comes to an end.
